On October 17th 2024 together with Jason Forest, Curriculum Developer for CCW we delivered a workshop to BA Textile Design students in Year 2 which focused on positioning in the context of there current Unit 5 project work which had a focus on the colour material and finish of textiles.

This was a 3-hour workshop that had a positionality PowerPoint presentation and student activity that were both created to explore positionality synergies, difference and perception. Although the attendance wasn’t great we got productive feedback from the students who did attend.

Reflection

I think the session worked, but it felt too traditional in terms of us as academics presenting knowledge on the subject to the students, then students reflecting and answering questions led by us on the activity. This created a hierarchy that could be argued made the discussion phase less sincere.
