Nick Dunn: Professional Practice Show & Tell Session Y2 BA HONS Textile Design Students.

Below is an email sent to students a week before the session and shared with Linda (PGCERT T&L Tutor). There were on average 25 students in each session on the day.
Friday 1st March, Professional Communication and Insight: Show & Tell session 2. Group B 10:00 – 13:00 Group A 14:00-17:00
Next Friday sees the second of a series of two opportunities within the U7 programming to discuss your U7 work in progress to a group of your peers from across specialisms as well as myself and Claire Anderson.
Please come prepared to share your work in progress, both verbally and visually with the following:
- sketchbook and any visual research you’ve gathered so far
- Material experimentations, investigations, thoughts and findings
- A strong idea of your ‘Muse’ /inspiration
- Be prepared to verbally communicate, share your thoughts, views and opinions on future developments in your individual work, but also give supportive communication on your student peers work in progress.
- a pen and pad to take notes
- phone or laptop to enable you to do on the spot image searches/referencing
NOTE: These Show & Tell sessions are designed to be ‘safe spaces’ there will be no judgement, and there’s no right or wrong way in terms of what work you choose to share or verbally contribute, but the quality of the session relies a lot on the groups participation and willingness to communicate with each other, sharing work in progress.
The idea is to get you to develop more confidence in communicating your ideas in a professional manner. Also, in turn, give encouraging, constructive feedback to each other, exchanging knowledge on new possible research paths and material exploration opportunities.
You won’t all be asked to share your work, only if you’re comfortable in contributing, but you will be expected to respectfully listen when a fellow student is sharing and verbally contribute to the discussion offering words of encouragement when you feel appropriate to do so.
If attendance and participation is good, these sessions are extremely rewarding and productive for developing your professional communication skills, and the general progression of your project work as a whole!
NOTE: A microsoft teams online meeting to place on March 12th 2024 with myself and Linda Aloyisius to discuss the above and was recorded. Unfortunately i could not upload a link to this recording
